Shadefare

About

Every flight has a shady side

Shadefare exists because “which side of the plane should I sit on?” is one of those questions travelers ask before every trip — and the usual answers are folklore. Left going east, right going west, unless it's morning, unless you're south of the equator… The real answer depends on your route, your date, and your departure time, and it changes over the course of a single flight.

So we compute it. Enter a route and departure time and Shadefare samples the sun's position along the whole flight path, weighs it by glare intensity, and gives you a straight verdict: sit left or sit right — to dodge the glare, protect your screen and your sleep, or to chase the sunset if that's your thing. It's free and requires no account. Read the full methodology if you like your answers shown with work.
